Fort Dekalb

General Order No. 354. \ Washington, November 4, 1863


The name of the fort on the south side of the Potomac river, at present known   Fort " DeKalb," is hereby changed to Fort " Strong," after Major General George C.
Strong, U. S. Volunteers, who died at New York city, July 30, 1863, of wounds received in an assault upon Fort Wagner, Charleston harbor, South Carolina.
